In his third CEO role at Black Duck, Lou's first request was to talk to customers. A call from JPMorgan showed that the bank needed a curated list of open source security vulnerabilities across about 10,000 applications, updated daily. Lou asked why they were using the product and found they cared about security rather than license compliance, so he repositioned the company around open source security, which he said is a much bigger market with faster growth. He says many people inside the company did not want to change.
